An end-of-year update from the committee:

WRA – thriving/expanding since the AGM ...

Those of you who came along to the 2019 AGM will recall the hall was packed out and we even acquired three new co-opted members – Sheila Pennell, Phil Jones and Raju Gadhur. Jennie Holman was new to the committee too, after being a member of the WRA for three years.

Since then, the committee has met several times during the year and dozens of planning applications have been discussed and decisions around objecting or otherwise taken forward by chair David Cooke.

Lots of other topics have been discussed too – from the problems of the travellers being evicted from various sites and bouncing back to missing refuse collections during the strike and since. Other topics have included police activities, speed watch (with WRA committee members getting involved), litter-picking, Jones Wood, the GPO building, and anti-social behaviour/dangerous cycling in Walmley.

The committee met once at the Oak and Ash, then several times at Pype Hayes Golf Centre, and now are ‘back’ to where meetings had taken place in the past – the SC Rugby Club. Councillor David Barrie joined us at the November meeting, and dates have now been set for 2020

Anti Social Behaviour - Cyclists In Walmley

Police message:

This message is in regards to on-going reports of Anti-Social Behaviour in Walmley with youths using cyclists, how to report it and the on-going work with the youths to intervene in any anti-social behaviour or dangerous cycling.

Between the periods of 21/08/2019 and 22/09/2019 we have received 3 reports of Anti-Social Behaviour on Calder Drive/Pytman Drive/Walmley Ash Road and surrounding areas. Two of which on the same day were attended by Neighbourhood and Response Officers at the time to speak to the youths on Pytman Drive. At the time details of any who were riding irresponsibly were taken, and the group were asked to clean up the mess on the floor and place it in the bins.

**What we’ve done **

Currently and as previously posted numerous youths who have been involved in Anti-Social Behaviour using bikes have been given Stage 1 or Stage 2 ASB Warning Letters, meaning if they continue to act Anti-Socially in the community we will escalate this to properly and formally intervene if necessary. Of which some youths have already participated in the Restorative Justice Process, whereby they have a meeting with local residents who express the impact it is having on their livelihoods.

The Neighbourhood Team patrol where possible and engage with youths. Engaging with groups isn’t always negative, and some children in the area are acting responsibly and safely, and we do our best to have positive engagements where we give advice to groups on cycle safety and personal safety, we don’t want to deter everyone from using the facilities if they are using them responsibility. However if persons are found to be riding into traffic tickets will be issued and parents will be spoken to, and the aforementioned ASB procedure will also be used. Whilst we are very busy, and there are also other commitments it is still a priority of the team to intervene and patrol the area where possible. We also have a good working relationship with the local councillors on this issue.

**What we ask**

If you are experiencing Anti-Social Behaviour particularly if youths are riding pedal cycles towards vehicles you must call us on 101, or you can contact us on Live Chat. Live Chat is a good alternative to report incidents to police. Any further updates or developments will be updated on this forum.

If you have CCTV or Dash Cam Footage of this which will help us to identify and evidence this type of behaviour, you can send this to suttonnewhall@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk .

Any questions you can also email the above.

Update from the Chairman 20.09.2019

Junction works at Weaver Avenue/Thimble End Road.

I provide an update on the above works.

I have e-mailed B’ham. CC  to advise:-

  1. Junction widening not in accordance with approved plan – too narrow.

  2. Surfacing missing from tactile paving and channel on south side of Weaver Av.

  3. White lining of exit lanes not central and not long enough.

  4. Visitors to TE Park are parking in the widened section – reminded them that they promised double yellow lines along north channel (up to at least the pedestrian gate).

  5. Reminded them that they promised a pedestrian barrier along back of kerb at pedestrian gate.

  6. Reminded them that the promised to install signs to highlight the parking bays available near the start of Horsfall Drive – layby for park visitors.

  7. The link between the original TE Park and the extension provided by TW has still not been provided – I have queried the landscaping works.

  8. Re-reported the sunken manhole covers at 12 Arun Way – covers are loose and rocking/noisy.

Residential Burglary Winton Grove Walmley

On 8th September 2019 at approximately 4.00am, three offenders have approached a property on Winton Grove, they have attempted to lock snap the rear door and when this has failed they have smashed a rear window to gain access, they have then made good there escape in a silver ford fiesta. We feel they may have potentially been looking to steal two vehicles that were parked on the driveway and were looking for car keys.

If you have any information or CCTV regarding this crime please call 101 quoting crime number 20BE/213157G/19 or alternatively Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.
